What’s new in Windows 11:
– Windows 11 has a completely new design. Microsoft clearly needs a good reason to retract its previous claims and still abandon Windows 10 by introducing a new operating system number. And the new design is perfect for that. The Redmond giant has long been preparing an update for the update codenamed Sun Valley (“Valley of the Sun”) – apparently Windows 11 was under this name. The Sun Valley project appeared on the network for a long time – Microsoft regularly published details of the new interface style, experts shared previously unknown information, and popular designers in their circles designed realistic concepts based on all this data.
– Start and system items float above the bottom bar. Start is the calling card and face of all recent versions of Windows. Not surprisingly, in Windows 11, the developers have changed it again, but not so much in a functional sense, as visually: the Start window floats above the bottom bar. We have to admit that this small change makes the system look a lot cooler. Judging by the information on the network, Microsoft does not intend to radically change the “inside” of this menu: the updates will only affect the design of the window itself. The control panel will also float and its layout will be exactly the same as “Start”. The action center is combined with the control buttons; something similar has been used for a long time in some other operating systems. Almost every mention of this new menu suggests that it will be an island, with controls in a separate panel, notifications in another, and specific items (like the player) on their own.
– Right angles disappear, replaced by fillets. In fact, experts and conceptual designers are divided on this issue: some are sure that Microsoft will not change its traditions and stick to the right angle, while others are convinced that in 2021 Microsoft will follow the trend of fillets. The latter fits better with the definition of “all new windows” – floating menus alone are not enough to qualify the new design as truly new. The fillet is expected to affect almost the entire system, from context menus and system panels to all application windows. It is true that even on this topic, the opinions of concept designers differ: some draw fillets on all elements of the interface, others combine them with right angles.
– Thereit has a semi-transparent and blurry background throughout. There is disagreement on the web about the island view of the windows, the design of the corners and the levitation effect of the menu, but almost everyone agrees on the transparency of the windows. The vast majority of design leaks and renders show transparency and blur Windows, whether it’s at least the Start menu or Explorer. Moreover, these effects are even canceled when mounting the Windows 10X operating system, which Microsoft developed in parallel with the Sun Valley project, for devices with two screens and weak gadgets. The so-called acrylic transparency requires the use of new effects when the mouse cursor passes over the elements, as well as increasing the distance between the elements: the areas of the interface with which the user interacts will definitely become larger, and the page titles be thicker.
– New font that is already displayed. Windows 11 is likely to default to the responsive Segoe UI variable font, which was already released for Windows 10 Build 21376 for Insiders. Its advantage is that it is equally suitable for both small texts and large inscriptions. This distinguishes it from standard fonts originally designed for small or large sizes. For example, the stable version of Windows 10 currently uses the Segoe UI font, which is designed for 9pt. With smaller inscriptions, it becomes difficult to read, and with large inscriptions, it looks boring.
– Windows 11 has new icons and Windows 95 icons are gone. Yes, they are still used today. Microsoft will eventually change the icons used system-wide. It’s not just shortcuts to folders, trash cans, and other icons found in Explorer. We are talking about all the icons available in the Shell32 directory. There are still icons from the Windows 95 era, and Microsoft recently updated its design in an internal set; of course they will move to Windows 11.
– Windows 11 gets functional updates: there are a lot of them, but they’re all small. Much less is known about the upcoming update’s features than its design. But since Windows 11 and Windows 10X (the canceled operating system for fragile and foldable devices, the image of which was leaked online) were developed in parallel, it’s safe to assume that all the features of this last they will appear in Windows 11. , Windows 11 shows when the camera is in use on the computer; the corresponding indicator is displayed in the system tray.
