Create high-quality publications Microsoft Publisher 2019 is the latest version of Microsoft’s publisher development software. Users can use Publisher to meet a variety of design needs, from simple greeting cards to full-size custom document designs. By providing a wide range of editing tools, Publisher focuses on providing ease of use for first-time users. Despite its functionality, users with access to Adobe’s Creative Cloud will find that Photoshop and XD offer much more flexibility, on the other hand, users looking for a free solution can use Canva and its (function() { (‘ review-app-page-desktop’); }); Where does Publisher stand out? Publisher offers a wide range of features that allow users to create a detailed or simple document. Every project starts with a blank canvas where you can upload images, add shapes and designs, or experiment with ready-made templates to find something that fits your design. Features like Image Overlay allow you to drag an image on top of another and replace it instantly. Icons and highlights clearly show when this happens to avoid unwanted substitutions. Changing the background is easy with the apply to background feature, which allows you to select an image and then apply it to the background. This will automatically fill the background with the selected image. Publisher really shines with its catalog of templates at your disposal. Even the most novice user can create something professional by editing one of these templates. It also provides tools and color palettes to customize these templates to match your brand, giving you quick access to professional-looking documents that will wow you at your next meeting. Microsoft has always made sure that each new piece of softwarethe collateral was on brand, and Publisher is no different. While Publisher doesn’t look as clean or well-designed as other programs, it retains a similar feel to Word or Powerpoint. Fortunately for users, the interface is easy to use and it won’t take you long to get to grips with the various tabs and features. If you’re using other Microsoft 365 apps, it’ll take even less time to figure out what’s where and get the most out of Publisher. The top panel contains most of the functionality, including different color palettes, and drag-and-drop boxes make it easy to create new documents. Minimal design knowledge is required, and the drag-and-drop functionality compensates for most of Publisher’s limitations. Unfortunately, many users will find themselves excluded from Publisher’s target market. Although Publisher is part of the 365 suite, it can only be used in Windows 10 and 11. A strange decision by Microsoft, but if we look at their update schedule compared to their more used applications, we can understand why. Publisher doesn’t get updated as often as other programs and seems to have been almost forgotten by Microsoft. The app can be purchased as a standalone product or as part of Microsoft 365. However, it can take a while to find Publisher on the Microsoft website because it’s usually not part of their core marketing, so Microsoft just doesn’t seem to be promoting it to a newer audience.More one thing to consider is if you don’t currently have a Microsoft 365 license. As a standalone product, it’s relatively expensive, especially considering the range of features it offers compared to some of the better-known programs on the market. Find support? Microsoft apps often have decent in-app support, and Publisher follows suit with a help section. If you’re having trouble with a certain feature or want to do something in the app, you can search directly. However, this is often delayed, and in our case sometimesjust doesn’t work. Instead, we suggest you visit their website for direct support. Should Publisher be your next design tool? While Microsoft Publisher does a great job of providing beginning designers with an easy-to-use program, it’s hard to overlook the tool’s high price tag. Similarly, because licensed access is limited to one computer and only through Windows 10 or 11, many won’t be able to use Adobe Creative Suite, which, while potentially more expensive, will give you a lot more features than Publisher. Even Canva has more features and support than Publisher. If you have Microsoft 365, you can try Publisher within your current license; if not, we recommend trying another alternative.
